I've been thinking about this post for several weeks now, I like how writing can sit and marinate in the reader. Last night I was going through old posts on my website and came across a post from 2016, where I included these words written by my friend Eshun -

"For the last 2 years I’ve vacationed at the cottage with alternately a big bag of art supplies, a digital SLR, a shiny new journal… all so that I can *explore* my creativity. And somehow, guiltily, I never get around to doing much with them. Mostly because I’m busy scouring cookbooks and playing with recipes and the bounty of the seasons in our over-stocked island kitchen. Last night was hot and steamy when I shaped sourdough and turned the remaining sour cherries into jam, and I suddenly realized that this IS my creativity. That despite it all, cooking is what I do for self-expression and even fun. And that knowledge made my morning toast taste even sweeter…"

thought you'd enjoy this Sally - a kindred spirit.

PS - I've been carrying around my art supplies for two months and I all have is a small painting of forget me nots! how telling.

I love this so much, also it's a perfectly valid form of creativity. And as an aside I carried a new small journal around Japan for two weeks with intentions of journaling all my food adventures, I still have a week to complete and I've been home since Saturday. Thank god for iPhone photos🤷🏻‍♀️. And you're correct, writing and creativity can sit and muddle around in your mind making you think beyond its bounds. I'm glad this one sat with you xx
